![]() It grew out of his desire, as a musician and inventor, to create a stringed instrument that could make electronic sound without distorting. The guitar that bears his name - the Gibson Les Paul - is his crowning achievement. He also busied himself as a versatile bandleader and performer who could play jazz, country and pop. He also refined the technology of sound recording, developing revolutionary engineering techniques such as close miking, echo delay, overdubbing and multitracking. It's safe to say that rock and roll as we know it would not exist without his invention.īut Les Paul didn't stop there. In 1941, Paul built his first solid-body electric guitar, and he continued to make refinements to his prototype throughout the decade. By age 13 he was performing semi-professionally as a country-music guitarist and working diligently on sound-related inventions. Born Lester William Polsfuss in 1915 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Paul built his first crystal radio at age nine - which was about the time he first picked up a guitar. As a player, inventor and recording artist, Paul has been an innovator his entire life. The name Les Paul is synonymous with the electric guitar. We call our Les Paul Monday's our "crown jewel" and really sets the pace for the entire week as befits the original guitar god, Les Paul. Iridium also donates 20% of ticket sales every Monday to The Les Paul Foundation as our give back to Les and we are very active in helping extend Les Paul's legacy for future generations. Guest artists create the set list and they range from Les Paul material to covers to originals- it's incredibly eclectic and an opportunity to see the world’s best guitarists up close and personal. To honor Les, The Legendary Les Paul Trio continues to play Every Monday Night and we feature Best of Breed guitarists to honor Les in their own special way and the list of guitarists who have played is amazing- iconic guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Zakk Wylde, Steve Miller and Ted Nugent have performed.
